Akano, has emerged as the best graduating student of the Security and Defence Studies Programme 11/25 at the prestigious South African National Defence College.

The Security and Defence Studies Programme is one of the highest-level strategic leadership courses offered to military officers, designed to equip participants with advanced knowledge in security management, defence policy, and international relations. What makes Akano’s achievement even more remarkable is that he becomes only the second non–South African to clinch the overall best student award since the inception of the programme. Interestingly, the first officer to attain this honour was also a Nigerian — Captain (NN) Obute — who achieved the same feat in 2022.
