South African songstress Nomcebo Zikode has said that she never thought that the viral song, Jerusalema, would be accepted all over the world.
The 36-year-old singer who wrote and sang the song Jerusalema for compatriot, Master KG, said this during a chat at the recently concluded All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
While speaking to newsmen on the red carpet, Zikode disclosed that the song was written and recorded like any other song but never would she have imagined it would become a global success.
She said : “When I was writing the song (Jerusalema) I didn’t know that that song is going to be this big, I didn’t know that we can even have people like Burna Boy come in and do the remix of the song. Everyday, I’ve never thought that one day I would be able to write or sing such a big song, I am so grateful.”
Continuing, she said, “It’s amazing as you can see Burna Boy, Davido, Teni, Simi and also the guys from South Africa like Casper, they are just putting the flip high as well as myself, the song Jerusalema is all over the world. I’m so happy that our music is not only for us Africans but we are showcasing our talents. Also, other colors are loving our music and we are drawing them towards our culture.”
