At Old Trafford, Manchester United put on arguably their best performance under manager Erik ten Hag as Tottenham was easily defeated in the Premier League.
The outcome does not accurately reflect United’s immense superiority because only the brilliant play of Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris prevented them from earning the truly resounding victory they deserved.
United poured 19 shots on the Spurs goal in the first half alone, but Lloris miraculously kept it intact with five outstanding saves.
Two minutes after the break, Ben Davies’ deflection allowed Fred to finally beat Lloris with a shot, but it was no more than United deserved for a performance that was high on quality and intensity.
In front of a jubilant Stretford End, Bruno Fernandes curled a deft right-foot finish beyond the stretching Lloris to put United out of reach after 69 minutes.
With a win, Manchester United stays in fifth place in the standings, eight points behind leaders Arsenal, while Spurs misses the opportunity to pass Manchester City and stay in third place.
