The presidency warned the public not to relate to Umunubo as a government aide, stating anyone who does “does so at their own risk.”

Information revealed by Premium Times claimed that Umunubo was sacked over alleged involvement in fraud with several filmmakers.

Umunubo used his position to strike deals promising government support and visibility for creatives, deals that never materialised.

One notable case involved a N10 million sponsorship for the marketing and premiere of Lara Unlimited, a spin-off of Arese Ugwu’s The Smart Money Woman.

Part of the agreement included promotional rights for the presidency’s digital economy office on posters, backdrops, and podcast mentions.

The presidency warned the public not to relate to Umunubo as a government aide, stating anyone who does “does so at their own risk.”

This marks the latest in a string of controversies surrounding the creative economy office, as the former aide allegedly exploited his position to execute dubious sponsorships and agreements.
