Bassey became the most expensive Nigerian defender in history, overtaking Super Eagles legend Taribo West, when he moved to Ajax for a guaranteed fee of 23 million euros last summer.

The Leicester City academy product has returned to the United Kingdom a year after he departed Glasgow Rangers for Ajax Amsterdam.

The versatile Super Eagles star has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with a club option to extend by a further twelve months.

Fulham revealed that Bassey’s transfer is subject to the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate, which is expected to be received during the early part of next week.

The Italian-born player made his Ajax debut in the Johan Cruijff Shield match against PSV Eindhoven and totaled 39 appearances for the Amsterdam club, scoring one goal while providing five assists.

For the forthcoming season, Bassey has been allocated Fulham’s number 3 shirt, previously worn by Layvin Kurzawa, Michael Hector, Ryan Sessegnon, Scott Malone, Luke Garbutt and Konstantinos Stafylidis among others.
