The international acclaimed writer, Chimamanda Adichie has tackled the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for projecting her as a tribal person.

Adichie said ‘tribesman’ is an outdated and strange expression which says something about whoever is using it.

She made the statement on Tuesday while fielding questions on Arise Television’s news program.

Recall that the acclaimed writer had faced rebuttals and attacks following her letter to Joe Biden, the President of the United States.

She claimed in her letter that the presidential election was marred by irregularities and that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, didn’t follow its stipulated guidelines.

Adichie warned that it would “tarnish America’s self-proclaimed commitment to democracy and give the sheen of legitimacy to an illegitimate process” if Biden recognised Tinubu’s presidency.

However, Adichie said the APC was exactly doing something it accused someone else of doing.

She said, “Tribesman is such an outdated and strange expression which I think also says something about whoever is using it. That kind of accusation is a practice of what psychologists call ‘projecting’.

“You’re doing something but you accuse someone else of doing it even though they’re not. I did not support Peter Obi because he is Igbo as I am.

“I respect Peter Obi but there are many Igbo men who I admire and respect but I will never vote for them for president because I don’t think they will make good presidents. My support for Peter Obi is rooted in my belief in his ability.”
