The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer in Abia State, Nnenna Oti, has recounted her experience in the just concluded governorship election.

Recall that amidst the delay in announcing the Abia State result, Oti stood her ground, insisting that the people’s votes must count.

While announcing the result, she said: “I shall stand squarely and unapologetically on these principles. The people’s votes and mandate shall stand.

“The pastor and the mother in me will not permit me to do anything that will adversely affect the future of our children”

Subsequently, Nnenna Oti, the Vice Chancellor, of Federal University of Technology, FUTO, received a hero’s welcome to the institution when she returned on Tuesday, March 28.

Staff and students sang her praise and raised banners in her honour.

One of the banners had the inscription “Welcome back Nnenna Oti, Heroine of Nigeria Democracy.”

Speaking to those who gathered to welcome her,  Nnenna Oti recounted how some political parties came with threats, money, and intimidation but she refused to be moved.
