Real Madrid will not trigger the release clause, worth €80 million, to sign Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze from La Liga club, Villarreal.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Samuel Chukwueze has a release clause worth €80 million in his contract with Villarreal. But Real Madrid will not trigger it to secure his services in the summer transfer window. And the reigning La Liga champion is not ready to pay even €50 million to sign the in-form winger.
The Nigerian has established himself as one of the most enigmatic players in La Liga since joining Villarreal. The 23-year-old ended his footballing education after arriving in Spain in August 2017.
At the same time, he has established himself as a pivotal figure for the Nigerian national side.
The youngster is enjoying his most productive season yet in his professional career. And a tally of 13 goals and 11 assists in 40 appearances is impressive. Meanwhile, Chukwueze’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid reportedly among his prospective suitors.
Real Madrid might have to enter the market for a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. That is because Eden Hazard faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu. And with the Belgian forward failing to make his mark, a summer departure from Real Madrid is on the cards.
In addition, Marco Asensio’s long-term Real Madrid future is up in the air. But recent reports have claimed that the Spanish international will soon sign a new long-term contract. Nonetheless, the reigning La Liga champion remains in the market for a winger. And Chukwueze has popped up on Real Madrid’s radar over a potential summer move.
But Chukwueze’s Villarreal contract has a release clause worth €80 million. That is too steep for Real Madrid, who will not pay €80 million to sign the 23-year-old. The report added that Los Blancos will not even shell out €50 million to secure the services of the in-form winger.
While the report does not mention the amount Real Madrid will be comfortable to pay, triggering the release clause seems unlikely.
