Women supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from south-east states, on Wednesday, held a rally in support of the party’s candidates for the 2023 presidential election.

The women converged on the Hero Square, and later marched to the Imo international conference centre (IICC), as well as the government house in Owerri.

Speaking when he received the women at the government house, Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the party in governance.

“In the south-east, APC is strong. We are in every nook and cranny of the zone and we are solidly behind our presidential and vice-presidential candidates and all APC candidates in the zone,” he said.

“We are indeed happy with President Muhammadu Buhari. We are also happy with our party and the presidential and vice-presidential candidates.”

Uzodimma also said he believes Tinubu will perform if elected as president, and described him as “a man after the heart of women”.

On her part, Chioma Uzodimma, wife of the governor, said the rally was to show support for Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, APC presidential and vice-presidential candidates, respectively.

“It is on record that the ruling APC in Nigeria of today has given women a lot of opportunities in politics and corporate governance more than any other,” she said.

“In Imo state today, our performing governor has done a lot more to improve the standard of life by accommodating women in positions of leadership and governance.

“The best leaders know how to get the most out of people; they enable the full potential in others. These are the qualities we have found in Bola Tinubu right from when he joined politics and throughout the MKO Abiola struggle of 1993, the struggle and bustle for democracy, and his eventually reign as the governor of Lagos state from 1999 to 2007.”

Also present at the event was Betta Edu, APC women leader.
