The presidency says the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi was deported from the United Kingdom.
Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad said this in a tweet on Thursday, April 13, following the controversy generated by Obi’s detention at Heathrow Airport in London on Friday, April 7.
Obi’s associate, Prof. Stella Chinyere Okunna had disclosed that UK immigration officials detained the LP candidate for hours and informed him that his identity “was duplicated”.
Head of Obi-Datti Media Office, Diran Onifade confirmed the development but denied a report that the British government has apologised to Obi over the incident.
Reacting to the LP’s rebuttal of the apology report, African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore tweeted:
Responding to Sowore’s remark, a Twitter user @Obaksolo wrote, “Did he continue the Trip to UK or is he Back to Nigeria? I donno why this Story is not adding.”
Ahmad replied to the comment: “He was deported, sir.”
