Luton Town’s Elijah Adebayo has been on hot form since the start of the 2023-24 English Premier League campaign

Super Eagles-eligible forward, Elijah Adebayo, has revealed his intention to play for the Nigerian National team, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old has been on hot form for the newly promoted side, Luton Town, scoring 9 goals in his 23 domestic league appearances—including an hat-trick against Brighton which was crucial in placing them above the relegation zone.

Adebayo’s vision for scoring goals, and his ability has been courted by several clubs who would like to bolster their squad with his signature.

However, a section of the Nigerian football community who would like to see him in the green-white-green Nigerian jersey rather than play for the Three Lions.

Meanwhile, Elijah, born in England and to Nigerian parents, has opened the door to feature for the Super Eagles of Nigeria now, or later in the future when the opportunity for him comes.

“I would like to play for Nigeria, It would make my mum happy, make her proud. That’s something we’ve spoken about. Playing for England? It would be a case of whichever comes first. My mum would be proud if I played for Nigeria or England, but Nigeria especially.” he said, as quoted by Times.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria came as a runners up following a 2-1 defeat to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations’ host, Cote d’Ivoire.

As reported by the Athletic, Elijah Adebayo’s mother was busy cheering the Super Eagles up during their final showdown of the tournament.
