Aretired officer of the Department of State Services (DSS) and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akin Adeyi, whose restaurant was demolished in Osogbo for allegedly exposing the certificate scandal of Governor Ademola Adeleke, has said he made the appeal in good faith, in the interest of the party.

Adeyi, who spoke to our reporter in Lagos yesterday, said: “Sometime last year, I wrote a petition and appealed to the Screening Committee of the PDP that they should screen Adeleke properly because he had some deficiencies in his credentials, which might cause problems for the party.

“I insisted that they should not allow our effort to be wasted and that the party should settle for another candidate, possibly his nephew, Dele, who also contested the primary.”

At that time, Adeyi said the panel  agreed that the credentials contained lots of damaging errors and fraudulent claims.

He described himself as a victim of circumstances because of the petition he wrote to the party’s screening committee before the last governorship primary election, asking the authorities to investigate the inadequacies he observed in the Osun governor’s certificates.

But, the party, he said, ignored his appeal and went ahead to field Governor Adeleke because his brother, Deji, bankrolled  the party.

Adeyi vowed that he would go to court to seek justice.

He said his life had been turned upside down because of the advice he gave the party. He said: “There are threats to kill me and my entire family. I no longer have a means of livelihood, apart from my pension. I hereby appeal that the police and DSS should look into the matter and save my life and those of my family members.”

The PDP chieftain alleged that the uniformed men who arrived on the scene at 4am to perpetrate the act were led to the place by a notorious thug working for Governor Adeleke.

He said had petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone XI over the alleged threat to life by loyalists of Governor  Adeleke.

He added: “I want to beg the security agencies to look into this and bring those who perpetrated the act to book. No government is bigger than the state. What is it that I have said now that is not true? I said they should look at his credentials and that there were deficiencies there and this is it now. I am vindicated by what is going on at the tribunal.”
