A commercial tricycle rider led to the arrest of a suspect, identified as Ibrahim Garba, who confessed to facilitating the movement of the explosive materials from Nasarawa State en route to other places.

The Kano State Police Command has seized suspected explosive devices and illegal drugs during two separate operations across the state.

The spokesperson of the command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, January 15, 2026 said a team of Police Officers attached to Anti-Daba Unit of the Command while on intelligence-led surveillance patrol, intercepted a tricycle rider at Sani Mainagge Quarters, Gwale LGA, with three bags containing suspected heavy materials. 
 
A team of experts from the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) conducted recognition and identification of the suspected materials, where electric detonators numbering 3,700 pieces were discovered. 

A commercial tricycle rider led to the arrest of a suspect, identified as Ibrahim Garba, who confessed to facilitating the movement of the explosive materials from Nasarawa State en route to other places. 

In the other operation, officers attached to the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division executed a search warrant at a residence in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge LGA, where two big sacks containing suspected incriminating materials were discovered.
 
“In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, on improved intelligence gathering mechanisms and intelligence-led policing, the Kano State Police Command has made significant breakthroughs in crime prevention, management and control in the State,” the statement read.
 
“In two separate operations, Police Officers attached to Rijiyar Lemo Police Division and Anti-Daba Unit intercepted suspected explosive materials and suspected illicit drugs.
 
“In the first operation, on 13/01/2026, Police Officers attached to Rijiyar Lemo Police Division on the direction of the Commissioner of Police, executed a search warrant at a residence in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge LGA, where two big sacks containing suspected incriminating materials were discovered. 
 
“A team of experts from the Command’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) conducted recognition and identification of the suspected materials. 
 
“One of the sacks was discovered to contain 6 rolls of detonating codes while the other contained 20 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, and 220 sachets of suspected Exol tablets. Investigation is in progress.
 
“In the second operation, a team of Police Officers attached to Anti-Daba Unit of the Command while on intelligence-led surveillance patrol, intercepted a tricycle rider at Sani Mainagge Quarters, Gwale LGA, with three bags containing suspected heavy materials.

The commercial tricycle rider led to the arrest of a suspect, identified as Ibrahim Garba, aka ‘Manyan Baki’, aged 49 years, of Zamfara State, and confessed to facilitating the movement of the materials from Nasarawa State en route to other places. Investigation is in progress.
 
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commends the officers involved in the operations and urges the public to remain vigilant and continue to report any suspicious movement, items, or activities to the nearest Police Station or through the Kano State Police Command Emergency Numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926.
 
“The public is advised not to touch any suspicious item seen, keep distance, and immediately report it to the Police.”
