Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced a ₦10 million reward for information leading to the arrest of the gunmen behind a deadly attack in the Ihiala area.

The attack, which occurred on Monday, claimed the lives of at least seven people, comprising five security operatives and two civilians.

The attack occurred when a group of hoodlums stormed a funeral gathering, where family members were preparing for a burial ceremony slated for January 2. The assailants suddenly opened fire, shooting indiscriminately and claiming the lives of several people.

As they fled the scene, they also targeted security personnel stationed near the local government headquarters, causing further chaos and harm.

The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, noted that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered an immediate manhunt to find the assailants.

Reacting to the incident while speaking at the burial of one late Bridget Akanma Onuchukwu in Ihiala, Governor Soludo charged all in the state communities and their leaders to take a stand against gunmen and other criminal elements in the state.

He said, “Communities must rise now and come together. Those who are doing this are within this Ihiala. If you are PG (President General), or leader, or group leader, get information about what is happening.

“We must rise. We must not let this thing happen again. Anyone who gives us information that will lead to the arrest of these people, the government will give the person N10 million.

“We are placing N10 million on their heads, each of them who carried out this crime.

“These people who did this, their lineage will never see anything good. They, their families, their children and everything about them will never see any good thing.”
