Popular Nigerian filmmaker and content creator, Steven Ndukwu, has thrown shade at Nigerians over their constant complaints about power supply.

In a recent post, Steven shared that he experienced a 5-hour blackout in Maryland, USA, after heavy rainfall. According to him, the power went off less than 30 seconds into the rain and stayed off for five hours—but surprisingly, nobody talked about it.

He wrote:

“There was no light for 5 hours but guess what? I never saw it on the news, not on social media. Nowhere.”

Steven compared it to Nigeria, saying if the same thing happened here, it would be everywhere—Twitter trends, angry rants, and sponsored hashtags.

He added:

“It seems like everyone is in a rush to be the first to post bad news and trust social media to make it trend… The first way to fix Nigeria is to fix the things that go on the media.”

But his post didn’t sit well with many Nigerians who reminded him that America has constant electricity and 5 hours of outage is not a norm.

One user replied:

“This your talk no make sense. In Nigeria we’re used to light going for days, even weeks.”

Another wrote:

“We’ve been patient for over 60 years. Don’t compare Nigeria with a functioning country.”

While some agreed with Steven’s point about changing the narrative, many felt he was simply out of touch.
