Preliminary investigations revealed that the passenger attempted to carry an unidentified liquid substance, ater confirmed to be alcohol—on board, in violation of Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 17 rules, which restrict liquids exceeding 100ml unless medically necessary and declared.

According to FAAN, Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the Flight Captain repeatedly informed the passenger of the regulation, but he allegedly refused to comply, spilling the flask’s contents on an airline security officer. The Flight Captain intervened but faced similar resistance.Once boarding was complete, the passenger reportedly moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area, prompting AVSEC’s crime unit to escort him off the flight for questioning.

The agency assured that the matter remains under investigation and that all culpable parties will face appropriate legal consequences.
