A viral video has exposed some security operatives including the Nigerian army and police personnel assaulting Shiites protesters in Gwarinpa area of Abuja.

Recall that the members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites, stormed the Gwarinpa area of the nation’s capital on Tuesday morning where they clashed with some security operatives.

A statement by the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adeh Josephine, revealed that about 57 suspects were arrested in connection to the violence that erupted during the protest.

A video currently making the rounds on social media however, showed an attack on the protesters by the security operatives as some policemen, army officers were sighted dehumanizing members of the IMN.

A socio-political activist, Omoyele Sowore who shared the video on his official Facebook page, alleged that about six persons were killed during the incident.

His post reads, “This is a video of another bloody attack on Shiites in Gwarimpa area of Nigeria’s Federal capital Abuja today by a detachment of the HQ Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police Force.

“This video captures gruesome attacks that involve beatings, stabbings with bayonets and at least some gunshots. Sic persons are killed today as President Muhammadu Buhari continues to order the extra judicial killing of innocent and defenceless citizens across Nigeria. #BuhariMustGo #RevolutionNow” [sic.]
