Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has fired back at recent accusations by Hon. Obinna Ichita, dismissing them as “false, misleading and politically motivated,” while presenting what his team described as a clear record of service to Abia South and Nigeria.
In an official rejoinder, the Senator’s camp outlined his legislative record, constituency interventions, and national advocacy, stressing that his nearly two-decade-long career in the Senate has been defined by courage, consistency, and tangible impact.
The Legislative and National Record the statement highlighted Abaribe’s sponsorship of bills to amend the Electricity Act for improved power supply, establish a Federal University of Petroleum and Geological Sciences in Ukwa West, and regulate the outdoor advertising industry.
His motion to immortalize Prof. Humphrey Nwosu was cited as evidence of his dedication to Nigeria’s democratic history. It further recalled his tenure as Senate Minority Leader (2019–2022) and current role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, describing him as a “fearless voice” who has never shied from holding the executive accountable, including his famous call on ex-President Muhammadu Buhari to resign over insecurity.
Constituency Projects in Abia South rejecting Ichita’s claim of “zero scorecard,” the rejoinder listed recent projects facilitated between 2023 and 2025, including:Solar street lights in 139 communities across Abia South.A ₦235m rural electrification project from Ovom to Azumini.Rehabilitation of over 50 roads in Aba North, Aba South, and Obingwa.Educational materials, school uniforms, and sports facilities for schools across the six LGAs.Federal job placements for constituents and skills training programmes for women and youths.“These are not token projects,” the statement stressed, “but deliberate interventions that address grassroots needs and long-term development.”On Political RealignmentThe rejoinder defended Abaribe’s defection to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), describing it as a strategic and principled decision.
His endorsement of Governor Alex Otti, it said, reflects “support for good governance and performance, not blind partisanship.”It also reminded critics of Abaribe’s bold role in standing surety for IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu in 2018, an act that led to his arrest by the DSS , proof, it said, of his willingness to risk personal freedom for justice.
The statement urged Abia South voters to “reject politics of falsehood and erasure of history,” emphasizing that Abaribe, widely called Nmagha Ndigbo (Pride of the Igbo People), remains committed to integrity, development, and democratic defense.
