He also asked his supporters to send donations as well as keep tabs on the campaign activities of the party through the website.

“I invite every member of the OBIdient Family, and every supporter of our march to a new Nigeria to visit the official campaign website for the Obi-Datti Campaign organisation,” the tweet reads.

The development comes weeks after Pat Utomi, a chieftain of the Labour Party, had announced that portals to enable Nigerians at home and abroad to donate funds to the campaign would be launched.

Although the announcement on the unveiling of the portal had generated varied reactions, especially with seeking funds from outside the country, Utomi had said there was nothing wrong with Nigerians in the diaspora donating funds to political campaigns in Nigeria.

“When the time is right, the diaspora will give money. They have always given money to campaigns,” Utomi had said.

“I ran for president before and got support from the diaspora in 2006 and 2007, and then when I ran in 2011.”

Meanwhile, according to legal professionals, it is not against the law for persons in the diaspora to support the LP with funds.
