The High Commissioner has reportedly suffered a stroke and is now confined to a wheelchair.

SaharaReporters reliably gathered that since he suffered the stroke, he has been incapacitated to discharge his official duties as he is often in Egypt or Italy on a medical trip.

SaharaReporters had reported how passport racketeering rocked the Nigeria High Commission in Nairobi following the absence of the High Commissioner, who was at the time of the report in faraway Egypt for medical treatment.

“He is hardly around; he travels a lot for medical treatment because of his health challenge,” one of the sources said.

SaharaReporters had also reported the unjust treatment meted out to Nigerians in Kenya by Kenyan police officers who have continued to torture and extort money from Nigerians. They have also been accused of being responsible for the forced disappearance of some Nigerians.

Sources at the High Commission told SaharaReporters that the High Commissioner was rattled by a series of reports about inhumane treatment suffered by Nigerians in Kenya and how some officials at the Commission have turned the place into an extortion haven.

SaharaReporters had reported how Nigerians in Kenya raised the alarm over targeted killings and police brutality.

They also accused the government of Kenya of being behind the enforced disappearances of Nigerian nationals, adding that in one month, four Nigerians disappeared without a trace.

Also in July, a Nigerian went missing without a trace, they said.
