It blamed the closure on more customers using online banking services rather than high street branches.

Up to 124 jobs will be impacted by the closure but no compulsory redundancies are expected.

Employees who want to remain with the group will be moved to a new role.

The branches will close between June and September this year.

It comes after the banking giant shuttered 48 sites earlier this year.

Vim Maru, group retail director at Lloyds Banking Group, said: “Just like many other high street businesses, fewer customers are choosing to visit our branches.

“Our branch network is an important way for us to support our customers, but we need to adapt to the significant growth in customers choosing to do most of their everyday banking online.”

The company said online banking usage has reached a record high this year, with 18.6million customers regularly using its services.

Lloyds also said there will be services within one mile of the closures.

It is planning to open Banking Hubs in Buckingham, Cottingham and Troon to replace the branches.

Banking Hubs have a banking counter, run by the Post Office, where customers can deposit and withdraw cash, pay-in cheques and check balances.

One day a week a community banker will visit to provide more specialist services.

Lloyds Banking Group currently has has 739 Lloyds Bank branches, 553 Halifax and 184 Bank of Scotland.

It’s not just Lloyds Bank that is closing branches due to the surge in popularity of online banking.

Last week HSBC announced plans to shutter a further 69 sites between July and October this year.

Natwest and RBS said in February it was closing 32 locations.

Meanwhile TSB announced in November that it would axe as many as 70 branches.
