For Mrs. Joy E. Samuel, leadership is not defined by titles, positions or the privileges that come with them. It is measured by the lives touched, communities strengthened and opportunities created for people who may otherwise be left behind.
That philosophy took centre stage as Samuel, an entrepreneur, tax consultant, philanthropist and community leader, earned the prestigious Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership (CIML), Nigerian Chapter.
The recognition celebrates her professional accomplishments and commitment to ethical leadership, humanitarian service and community development. But for Samuel, the Fellowship represents more than another professional credential. It is a renewed call to serve, mentor and extend her impact to more people.
Speaking after the induction, Samuel described the occasion as deeply significant, expressing gratitude to God and appreciation to CIML for creating a platform she believes can inspire professionals to become more responsible and impactful leaders.
“I see it as an opportunity to encourage us to be better leaders,” she said, stressing that leadership must move beyond personal achievement to positively affect society and the people around it.

“It is just to do more. I’ve just been motivated to do more and reach out to as many as I can,” she said.

She believes that many young people do not necessarily need condemnation when they falter; they need guidance, encouragement, mentorship and people willing to walk alongside them.
“Presently, you see that our youths are being lured into so many things,” she observed.

“We, as leaders, have journeyed through where they are. We have passed through that route, so it is our responsibility to let them know,” she said.
It is a philosophy that places mentorship at the heart of leadership.
Samuel wants young people to understand that difficult circumstances do not have to determine their future and that taking the wrong path should never be seen as the only available option.
