A forum of serving and former local government councillors in Nigeria has backed the reelection of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The forum, which made the declaration at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, pledged to mobilize Nigerians, particularly those at the grassroots, for Tinubu’s second term bid.

The legislators pointed to the Tinubu administration’s push for local government autonomy and other key reforms as justification for supporting him for another term in office.

Dr. Evoh Ugochukwu, President, National Councillors Forum of Nigeria, who spoke on behalf of the serving and former local council legislators, said Nigeria has witnessed forward-looking leadership since Tinubu assumed office as President in 2023.

“Under his administration, we have seen: The restoration of local government autonomy; improved funding and accountability at the grassroots; renewed focus on rural development; expansion of social investment programmes; major investments in infrastructure and security; and strategic reforms in agriculture and economic management.

“These policies are not mere promises. They are realities that are transforming lives in our communities,” Evoh said.

According to him, the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration is no longer a slogan as it has become a living testimony in towns, villages and wards across Nigeria.

Evoh added that the serving and former local council legislators acknowledged the efforts of the Tinubu administration in strengthening national security through modernization of the Armed Forces; enhanced intelligence and technology integration; improved manpower and welfare for security personnel, and decisive leadership in tackling terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.

“These interventions have brought renewed confidence to our people and created safer environments for economic and social activities,” Evoh, the councillor representing Enenaezeraku Ward in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, said.

The National Councillors Forum of Nigeria comprises 8,809 councillors from the 774 local government areas in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Stating the collective position of the councillors, Evoh said, “As grassroots leaders, we have consulted widely with our members across the nation.
We have listened to the voices of our communities.

“We have evaluated the performance of this administration. Based on facts, evidence, and the realities on ground, we have reached a clear and unanimous decision.

“Therefore, on behalf of the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria, 8,809 councillors, 176,836 polling units, millions of grassroots supporters, I hereby formally declare our total, unwavering, and unconditional support for His Excellency,President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for re-election in 2027.”

Expressing the belief that Tinubu has laid a strong foundation for national prosperity, Evoh added that the local council legislators believe he has demonstrated courage, competence, and commitment.

Declaring a nationwide mobilization for Tinubu’s reelection, Evoh called on all serving and former councillors, ward leaders and coordinators, grassroots mobilizers and community stakeholders to join the movement.

“We must organize, mobilize, and enlighten our people. We must take this message to every polling unit, every ward, and every household,” he stressed.

The address delivered by Evoh was jointly signed by Hyacinth Horvel Turnoe, National Coordinator ST/HT Grassroots Coordinators of Development, and Chief Okorie Ikechukwu Raphael, National Coordinator, Citizens Network for Peace and Development.
