He was reacting over his recent remarks about Nigeria, describing it as “unacceptable” and demanding a public apology.

In a viral video seen on Friday, Jibrin condemned Trump’s tone and approach, stressing that Nigeria would not bow to any form of foreign intimidation.

He said the U.S. should respect international laws and diplomatic protocols when addressing matters concerning other sovereign nations.

“For the President of the United States to come and say, ‘You are doing this, we are going to attack you. And Nigeria is a disgraced country,’ it is quite unacceptable,” Jibrin said.

“He should understand, retract that statement, and apologise to Nigerians. It is against international law. Whatever he feels about our country, he should follow the legal route through the United Nations.”

The lawmaker added that he found it hard to believe such a comment came from a former American leader.

“We are not scared of Trump. If he were here, I would tell him to his face that he has gone against international law,” he said.

Trump, in a video released by the White House on Wednesday, claimed that Christianity was under serious threat in Nigeria due to alleged killings of Christians by radical Islamists.

He announced Nigeria’s designation as a “country of particular concern,” a status that allows possible U.S. intervention in cases of religious persecution.

Trump said, “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands and thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this man’s slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a country of particular concern. That’s a legal definition.”

He added that the U.S. “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening” and directed Congressman Riley Moore and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole to investigate and report back urgently.

The former U.S. President vowed that America “stands ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world.”
