A former presidential spokesman, Reno Omokri advocates honoring parents in life by contributing to their healthcare, rather than spending extravagantly on funerals after they pass away, citing the example of the late king of Saudi Arabia’s simple burial despite his wealth.

Omokri, in a post on X said, “Give your parents their flower now, while they have the power and tower over life, and before they go lower into the grave for their afterlife. This culture where we pull out all the stops to honour our parents in death is rubbishing Africa. Spend the money on the living.
