While many Chelsea fans are still trying to digest the sacking of Thomas Tuchel in September, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has leapt to the defence of Stamford Bridge supremo Todd Boehly
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has claimed the reasons behind Chelsea’s decision to sack Thomas Tuchel would “make your eyes water”.
The German was ruthlessly sacked days after completing a transfer window which saw the club spend a world record £270million. It was a jaw dropping decision from new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, who immediately replaced him with Graham Potter.
However, results under the former Brighton boss prompted many Chelsea fans to sing Tuchel’s name during their drab 4-0 away defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup. Yet, Jordan, who has previously portrayed his admiration for Tuchel, suggested Boehly made the right decision to fire the German.

“There’s a lot more behind the scenes of Tuchel that would make most people’s eyes water as to the reasons why Todd Boehly made that decision,” Jordan said to talkSPORT. “It wasn’t just a case of losing to Dinamo Zagreb, it was a case of a whole raft of other things.
“That’s Todd Boehly’s gift to tell people what that is,’ Jordan said on Monday. But it opened my eyes and I would’ve done exactly the same thing as Todd Boehly did which is ‘you can go mate’.”
After a good start to life at Stamford Bridge, Potter is under significant pressure having only won three of his last 12 matches in all competitions. His only victories have come against RB Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, the latter of which was essentially a dead rubber as Chelsea were already through, and the recent 2-0 victory over Bournemouth.

During that period, they have been comfortably defeated by Brighton, Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Manchester City on three different occasions. Meanwhile, Tuchel departed Chelsea having won the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup, while also reaching two FA Cup finals and the League Cup final.
Things could get worse before they get better for Potter as his side travel to rivals Fulham on Thursday. Marco Silva’s side are in seventh position and are currently enjoying a three-match winning streak.
If that was not daunting enough, Potter will be without Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, N’Golo Kante, and Christian Pulisic, and is also sweating on the fitness of Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
